Sponsor a Student!

Sponsoring a student is a great way to get involved with Austin Helps Honduras. We update our list of students awaiting sponsorships each year so you can choose from a middle schooler, high schooler, or post-secondary student studying in a vocational training program or at a local college. The Honduras school year runs from February through November; costs below are for one academic year. Scholarship donors receive quarterly updates from AHH on their student’s academic progress, as well as personal letters from their sponsored student.
When I signed up to be a sponsor, I didn't expect to have such a meaningful connection with the students but it's really nice. I love seeing their pictures and hearing about their interests in school and life. It's like having a pen pal again but with the added joy of knowing that I'm helping them to reach their goals.
In addition to paying for each primary student’s public school tuition, your donation pays for a student’s books and other class supplies, school uniform, bus transportation to and from school, school lunch, and after-school tutoring. Vocational and college students attend either public or private schools, depending on the program best suited to their needs. Other donation options include:
- $60 Instructor fee for commercial truck driver certification class for one student
- $100 28 hours of after-school and weekend tutoring time for middle and high school students
- $245 Round-trip public bus fare from colonia to high school for one student for one school year
- $320 School lunch allowance for one student for one school year
- $360 Internet service for one university student for one school year
